Information Collection and Usage

The Upwork Time Saver extension processes information as follows:

1. Local Processing

The extension primarily processes information within your browser. This includes reading job page content to display statistics and storing your preferences (such as UI visibility and floating settings) in your browser’s local storage. This locally processed data is never sent to us or any third party.

2. Server-Side Processing (via Our Server)

For certain advanced features and to protect intellectual property, the extension interacts with our secure server. When you use features such as:

  • Job Scoring: Relevant, non-personal job data (e.g., client history, job details) is sent to our server to calculate a proprietary job score. This ensures our scoring algorithm remains protected.
  • AI Content Generation: Job descriptions or other relevant text are sent to our server for AI-powered summarization, task extraction, or deliverables extraction. This protects our proprietary AI prompts and manages API keys securely.
  • License Verification: Your license key and a unique extension instance ID are sent to our server for verification. This is essential to validate your license, manage usage, and prevent unauthorized access to premium features.

Important Note on Data Sent to Server

The data sent to our server for these operations is limited to what is strictly necessary for the function (e.g., job description text for AI processing, license key for verification). We do not collect, store, or transmit any personal data that identifies you directly through these server interactions. All third-party API keys used for AI services are securely managed on our secure server and are never exposed in the extension code.

3. No Personal Data Collection

We do not collect, store, or transmit any personal information about you (e.g., your name, email, Upwork profile details) through the extension or its backend interactions.

4. No Cookies

The extension does not create or use cookies.

Permissions

The extension requires the following permissions to function:

  • Active Tab: Allows reading the active Upwork job listing tab (upwork.com/jobs/*) only when you click the extension icon. Enables on-demand analysis of the current job without accessing any other browsing data.
  • Read and change your data on upwork.com: Gives read/write access to Upwork job pages (upwork.com/*) to extract job and client information. Injects AI-driven scoring, task breakdowns, and summaries locally without sending data externally.
  • Storage: Saves user settings (dark mode, font size, job tracker filters, license info) locally on your device. All data remains on your device and is never shared.
  • Tabs: Allows opening and managing Upwork search tabs (upwork.com/find-work and /search/jobs) for automated job tracking. Only interacts with tabs you authorize and does not access other browsing activity.
  • Alarms: Enables scheduling background tasks (trial expiration checks and data refresh) at set intervals. Keeps the extension up-to-date without continuous background activity.
  • Notifications: Shows desktop alerts for new job matches and license updates. Notifications include only job titles and basic details without personal data.
  • Scripting: Injects the AI analysis interface (scoring tables, sidebar, and job tracker) into Upwork job pages. Alters only the visual display without accessing personal data.
  • Access to api.realremotejob.com: Communicates with api.realremotejob.com for license verification and protected AI requests. Only your license key and job content are transmitted; no personal data is collected.

Updates to this Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on the Chrome Web Store listing for the extension.
